Waterfront Estate

A Marin waterfront estate of 15,000 square feet - open water, shifting blues, a house that breathes with the bay
Our clients wanted an oasis where they could relax with family so we re-designed their California house in a palette of blues to reflect and accent its setting on the San Rafael Bay and the Marin Islands National Refuge. Avid sailors with roots in the Caribbean, the expansive waterfront views drew the couple to the property, and a consistent, calming spectrum of blues throughout the home mirrors what they love most about its setting. We changed old narrow-board light oak flooring to richer and wider planks to ground the 15,000 square-foot home as a cozy refuge. Carefully considered shades of blue serve as the foundation for nearly every room. Custom kitchen and bathroom cabinets finished in a variety of hues of blue and teal keep the spaces feeling related yet distinct. To round out the palette, we chose distinctively shaped hardware and light fixtures in brass tones so that the expansive house feels warm and welcoming. A center stairwell chandelier features 15 feet of hand-blown glass inspired by falling raindrops that appear to cascade into the bay. The kitchen serves as the home’s focal point for everyday cooking, gathering, and dining, while the rich, blue cabinetry creates an elegant backdrop for evening entertaining. The bathrooms exude spa-like relaxation. Natural plaster and wood materials, echoing classic European retreats, surround a one-of-a-kind indoor pool and spa, while commissioned resin art and Italian glass sconces elevate the setting with floor-to-ceiling views of the coast and Mount Tamalpais. Our clients now feel at home and at peace the moment they walk through their door.
